I manipulate feedback through a bass guitar and pound out almost random collections of sound from a tuneless broke-ass pianos whenever I can get a hold of one. Sometimes I will record these things, sometimes people will collect in a group in front of (or behind) me while I make the noise. They will, on occasion be effected to the point of applause. Mostly the noise is for me though. The rest of you can just fuck off.
Fuck Apollo. Dionysus is the god of music, and you must obey his rules: 1. You must dance. 2. Spontaneity, always! ELABORATION: 1. You must dance. You are not truly experiencing music (or noise) if you do not experience it with your whole body. Sound is vibrations in the air which cause your ear drum to send messages to your brain, your brain then sends messages to your muscles. If you inhibit those messages you do a disservice to yourself, you cut the process short. Spastic geek out in the crowd of bored head nodders! Stand on your toes or heels and become a noise antenna! Break something! MOVE!! Yes, they are all going to laugh at you! So fucking what? Dance anyway. 2. Spontaneity, always! Music is a product of primary impulse, writing music is not allowed and will not be tolerated. Do not 'jam' or 'improvise' either. That's hippy shit. It's being 'free' within certain limitations. If we are going to escape songs, then we have to escape music as well, and escape all planning and coordination. We should be as surprised by what we do as our audience is. That's spontaneity You say you are not trying to escape songs? You are worthless and obsolete. Die. Amendment to rule one: It should go without saying, that the principle of rule two applies to the practice of rule one. In other words, choreography is forbidden. Line dancing, ballet, modern dance, any organized coordinated group of people moving to music are fascists. They must be smashed. |
